Collaboration

I wish I had more collaborations. I don’t like working alone. I really feel challenged when I work with others, sometimes I get frustrated, and irritated, but those feelings are normal when you’re not familiar with what’s happening and it might feel like it’s uncontrollable. However, I’m here to say there is a solution.

Today I did my first collaboration live with @choose_tobepod it’s my friend, Jackie. Jackie is doing similar work to me, but I think she does it way better and more professionally. She’s like an agent, but a self-made agent.

You can tell we both have different creative styles and different avenues of interest and engaging with the world. These unique personalities are important to highlight. I want each user to feel like they belong, I want the community/audience I’ve made for myself be interested in the same things I’m interested in and laugh at the same thing I laugh at.

Prior to this, I felt like no one understood me. That when I found a partner, there were stars and fireworks everywhere because it was a miracle that I found someone who’s just like me.

But I learned from one of my past partners that I don’t need to find someone exactly like me. I don’t need to have someone who is raised by strict parents, in an Asian household, and ran cross-country in high school, but the familiarity is nice.

What this page is making me realize, is that I’m here to spread awareness and familiarity to connect with others and educate others.

When the internet was born, I freaked out when I saw the Fung brothers, and how they had the same mannerisms as my cousins. They posted funny asian mom videos that made me relate to and laugh at. I think this is where I’m learning to be comfortable with being different, weird, and crazy. I don’t mind if people are talking about me. I’m still living my life and I know I might be different. There’s a whole world out there that’s doing something completely different from what I’m familiar with.

So that’s to share why it’s important to collaborate. These collaborative challenging opportunities is to help us grow and learn from others. It’s difficult for a reason. It takes you out of your comfort zone, yet it’s quite rewarding after completing that given task afterward.

So I highly encourage you to collaborate with others, and connect with local businesses, and communities because you never know what other opportunities it’ll bring to you.

I’ve connected with unsolved cold case game company, UC Berkeley, The Noodle Restaurant on Shattuck, and some boba shops in Long Beach. It’s amazing to get recognition and connect with others. So I encourage you to do the same (with kindness and respect ofc).

PS. BTW check out our collaboration post on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C0Z7zOcS6P0/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

I had loads of fun talking with Jackie!

Cheers,
